Box of Light PREORDER: A 31-Day Knitting Advent Calendar
What if you could bottle up a little summer sunshine and let it out, one day at a time, through the darkest month of the year?
Our Box of Light looks like an advent calendar — 31 small, wrapped surprises and enough hand-dyed yarn to make something beautiful. But it isn't really about the yarn. It's a 31-day countdown to the New Year that gives you one quiet thing to look forward to each morning: a gift to open, a few rows to knit, and a moment that belongs only to you.
"First thing this morning I opened my Box of Light and — wow. This is going to be an amazing month of surprises. I ignored everything, grabbed a cup of coffee, and cast on." — a Box of Light knitter

Why we make it
December is often cold, the days are short, and the season can ask more of us than it gives back. The Box of Light is our answer to that. A small daily practice to brighten your day.
"It's the third year I've participated, and somehow each year has been more fun and more inner-supportive than the last." — a returning knitter
What's inside
Every box contains 31 envelopes, including:
- 10 coordinating mini skeins of hand-dyed yarn, created by 29 Bridges
- An easy, engaging scarf pattern designed to use the yarns as you open them — absorbing, never stressful.
- A list of knit and crochet alternatives, because you don't have to make the scarf. Make a shawl, a hat, a set of small gifts — whatever the moment calls for.
- Everything else the project needs, including needles — so your box is genuinely complete.
-
Real support if you're new to making — questions are always welcome.
- Other treats to delight you - a tool, a chocolate, a small surprise.
How people use it
There's no single right way. Some knitters take a solitary moment in a busy morning. Some open the box alongside a friend, or a daughter, or a knitting group and count down together. Some save the whole thing for January, when the holidays are over and the month stretches long and quiet.
"The best part? Taking a moment to pause, open a surprise, and knit each morning during a busy season. A meditative, joyful start to the day." — a Box of Light knitter
However you do it, we hope you will feel rested and cared for.
Giving it as a gift
A Box of Light is one of the easier ways we know to give someone 31 days of being thought of. If you're sending it to someone else, just add their address at checkout — and if you'd like us to include a note in your words, tell us and we will.
The story behind the box
Years ago we wanted to make an advent calendar for knitters — but we didn't love the idea of leaving anyone out, whatever they celebrate. So we counted down to the New Year instead. (The happy accident: 31 surprises instead of 24.) The first Box of Light sold out and meant more to people than we expected. It has gotten better every year since. We love being part of so many end-of-year rituals.
When you'll get it
This is a preorder. Your Box of Light will be ready in mid-November — in plenty of time to begin on December 1, or to wrap and give. At checkout, please choose Shipping or Local Pickup. We're glad to ship anywhere, though we know some of you treasure any excuse to stop in. 😄
A note on price
We keep the box at our early-bird price through June 30. After that, the price reflects what the contents actually cost us — much of it made by small makers who are absorbing real increases right now. Order early if you'd like the lower price; order whenever you're ready if that suits you better.
